FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions
-
What does “outside the original edition” mean?
For Andy Warhol prints, the original edition is the first edition that was produced and most often signed by Warhol himself. They are numbered so the actual number made is know. Often their condition is faded or not perfect because of the age.
-
What does “after Banksy” mean?
After means that there is no paperwork on the picture. When there is no accompanying paperwork it can only be sold as a reproduction or done by a different artist. Without true paperwork no authentication is possible.
-
What is a Proof Edition print?
For Andy Warhol, many prints came out between 10-12 years ago, with the same image as the Original edition done many years before. Many people in the trade refer to these as Proof edition pieces. They are most likely from the same screens as the original edition. We will never know how many were made since the Proof Edition is not signed or numbered.
-
Why are most of the prints you sell not framed?
Framing is a matter of taste. There are literally thousands of frames you can choose. We have also found that framing can make shipping very expensive because of the larger size and weight. We don’t like shipping with glass or plexiglass because it is common to have more damage during shipping; often to the picture.
-
Why do you advertise that you ship flat on wood board?
We sell the highest quality silkscreens or screenprints available and many are printed on Lenox museum board (like many of the original edition Warhols.) These should not be rolled and shipped in a tube. By shipping on wood board we bring the chance of damage down to a minimum.
-
Do you always ship on wood board?
Almost all of the Warhols are shipped on Wood Board. Some pieces by other artists we carry are done on Paper and can be rolled and sent in a wide tube.
-
I see your shipping may be a little more expensive than other sellers. Why is that?
Mostly because of the wood board shipping. Wood makes the package heavier and so shipping costs are higher. But, you will have a better chance of getting your piece in perfect condition. Also, we often use Fedex. More expensive than others but we have found excellent service.
-
Can the Proof edition pieces be authenticated?
No, they cannot be authenticated. We do carry some original edition pieces that could be authenticated. The minimum price of those is $45,000. Some like the Warhol Chanel, Superman, and Tiger can be $300,000. The Warhol Foundation is presently not accepting pieces for authentication.
-
Why is the condition of the Proof Edition better than Original Edition pieces?
The Proof Edition pieces are newer and so the colors have not faded. The original edition pieces can be 40-50 years old, framed and reframed, and handled much more. Often there are condition problems.
-
Are the Proof edition pieces you sell just reproductions?
All prints are really reproductions. Even the Original edition pieces that go for $45-300,000 are just reproductions.
The only true originals are the pieces done by hand by the artist. These are not printed. They are usually acrylic or oil.
The Warhol original pieces are over $5 million and can go much higher. -
Do I need to spend $45,000 or more for an original edition Warhol or Banksy piece?
If you are looking for an investment and you have that kind of money then the answer is yes. If you just want the beauty of a Warhol image done same size, colors very close but not signed and not numbered, then you will love our pieces. We tell people our pieces are to “frame, hang, and enjoy” without robbing a bank.
